Developmental delay is a condition where a child fails to meet expected developmental milestones (such as sitting, speaking, or walking) at the expected age compared to peers. It is often categorized by domains: motor, speech/language, cognitive, social, and activities of daily living. A “global developmental delay” involves significant delays in two or more of these domains and may indicate the need for early intervention services to support the child’s development.
