A speech disorder is a condition where a person has difficulty producing speech sounds correctly or fluently (such as stuttering) or has problems with their voice. It is distinct from a language disorder, which involves difficulty understanding or using words. Examples of speech disorders include apraxia of speech, where the brain struggles to plan speech movements, and dysarthria, caused by muscle weakness. Children with birth injuries, particularly those affecting the brain, may experience various types of speech disorders requiring therapeutic intervention.
